It's that time of year again! Allergy season. Sniffing all day, itchy, watery eyes and nose, and that feeling where you just want to lay down and sleep for a month. That's allergies for you. They can really drag you down and make you want to stay indoors till it's all over.

In some cases, allergy season lasts longer, depending on the severity of your condition. But they don't have to bring you down, make you miss your workouts, your runs, or your bike rides.

Get the Jump on Allergy Season

Instead of dreading Spring, give these 5 little hacks a try. You might find that you are better able to cope with your allergies, keeping them check.

    1) Pour Yourself a Glass Of Tart Cherry Juice

Sure you can munch on a bowl full of cherries, but when you juice them instead, this will produce a concentration of quercetin which prevents the body from releasing histamines. If you drink a glass before going out for a run, this will crack down on your allergy attacks. So drink up!

    2) Know Before You Go

You can always search out on your computer or smart device your local allergy reports for the day. The report will give you information such as the pollen count, which type of plant is in bloom, and you can also view the severity such as the high threat days and low threat days and consider doing an indoor workout on those high pollen count days.

    3) Dress For The Part

There are certain active wear brands that produce pollen resistant clothing and will prevent you from turning into a pollen-collecting magnet like a bee. Also, consider wearing sunglasses to keep it out of your eyes as the wind carries the pollen around. If you're worried about inhaling some, you can also wear a medical mask (though this might make you feel and look kind of funny), or nasal gel to prevent inhalation.

    4) Remove These Items From Your Diet; At Least Temporarily

allergy season.jpgDuring allergy season, there are a few foods you might want to avoid that can make the symptoms of hay fever a bit worse:

    • Alcohol
    • Chocolate
    • Dairy
    • Caffeine
    • Sugar
    • Peanuts
    • Wheat
    • Artificial Sweeteners
    • Citrus

After peak season, feel free to add these foods back to your diet.

    5) Add These Foods To Your Diet During Allergy Season

The following foods are here to help you strengthen the immune system and help you fight off those awful allergies:

    • Local raw honey
    • Wild caught fish
    • Organic fruits and vegetables
    • Organ Apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
    • Foods rich in probiotics such as sauerkraut
    • Bone broth
    • Spicy peppers and sauces
    • Organic grass-fed meats
    • Pineapple

Your diet has a lot to do with the way your immune system functions, so be sure you are eating whole healthy foods and leaving out anything processed and with added sugars, preservatives, and chemicals.
